It was our great pleasure to have Professor Vivian Wing Wah Yam - the Philip Wong Wilson Wong Professor in Chemistry and Energy & Professor: Chair of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science of the University of Hong Kong - deliver a science talk on Molecular Functional Materials from Fundamentals to Energy, Materials and Biomedical Applications during the senior form morning assembly on 15th April 2026.

Throughout the session, Professor Yam provided an overview of various applications of her research work from the perspective of a scientist. Her research interests include inorganic/organometallic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, photophysics and photochemistry, and metal-based molecular functional materials for sensing, organic optoelectronics and energy research.
Professor Yam also shared her journey as a scientist, offering students advice on how to tackle problems and overcome difficulties in research. She encouraged and inspired our students to face the challenges of the new AI era with a positive attitude and seize the golden opportunity of scientific research. Our students gained valuable insights from her sharing, which significantly broadened their  perspectives on their future career paths.
