There was a series of interesting activities organized by the Mathematics Society for Math Week from 11 March 2025 to 14 March 2025. Students enjoyed the fun of mathematics and improved their mathematical abilities by joining various games and challenges.
First, junior and senior form Math Q&A competitions were held on 12 March 2025 and 13 March 2025 respectively. Each student answered basic and challenging questions through Kahoot!. The top 3 students with the highest scores in each class won a prize. These competitions were designed to test students' mathematical knowledge, skills, and calculation speed. It helped students consolidate their mathematical knowledge and improve their problem-solving speed and accuracy.
Second, students went to Cheong Lap Hall during lunchtime to participate in incredible and challenging mathematical games, including Rummikub, number maze, Tower of Hanoi, IQ puzzles, brain teasers, etc. Students got a souvenir if they completed a challenge. We hope to increase students' interest in learning mathematics through funny games. In the meantime, it is an extraordinary opportunity to enhance students’ logical thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
The last day of Math Week is 'Pi Day'. The Mathematics Society held a competition related to the mathematical symbol Pi. Students who can reel off Pi values up to the greatest number of decimal places will be the winners. It was incredible that a student could reel off the values of Pi up to 100 decimal places.
In conclusion, students participated in different activities based on their interests and abilities during Math Week. By demonstrating the application of mathematics in daily life and engaging in interactive activities, we hope that students will not only foster a positive attitude towards mathematics but also develop different skills in solving problems.
